While traveling through Atlanta I was disappointed to see the “Green Sort Atl” bins located throughout the airport. These “bins” did nothing more than use up energy because they are all required to be plugged into an electrical outlet at all times. What happened to old-fashioned recycle bins that let us do our own sorting without this unnecessary use of energy? If one of the goals is to operate in an environmentally responsible manner, this recycling/sorting program should be eliminated in exchange for those old recycle bins.

They are not plugged in. Everything is sorted offsite. This is the best solution. When everything is sorted onsite, three times the trucks are needed for pickup: garbage, compost(where applicable), and recycle. The type of machinery necessary to sort onsite would be an absurd feet of industrial engineering probably involving lasers and would be impractical.
