Support Decatur’s “Farm to School” program (and local Georgia farms) this Friday!

I just came across this blog yesterday posted by Decatur Metro regarding the City of Decatur’s Farm to School program that was approved last month. This is a big step in the direction of bringing healthy, fresh, local food into our school systems and will hopefully trigger a domino effect with other institutions (which only makes sense since Georgia has a fairly large agriculture sector…).

As the program gets its legs, Senators Saxby Chambliss and Tom Harkin will hold a Senate Committee on Agriculture meeting on the Farm to School program this Friday, May 15th, 2009 at the Centers for Disease Control. Georgia Organics is encouraging as many people as possible to attend and show their support for local food in our schools.

  • What: Senate Committee on Agriculture meeting regarding the Farm to School program
  • When: Friday, May 15th from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Where: The CDC, Harkin Global Communication Center, Auditorium A, 1600 Clifton Road, NE Atlanta, GA 30329 (map it!)
  • Why: to show, for the record, how many people support the Farm to School program and local Georgia farms
