I love the fact that community gardens are sprouting up everywhere – in neighborhoods, at schools and universities, and churches. One church in Ormewood Park (a southeast Atlanta neighborhood next door to Grant Park) has established their community garden and is doing one better.

Decatur’s annual Oakhurst Community Garden Plant Sale 2010 is this weekend, April 9th and 10th, 2010! The Oakhurst plant sale has a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers, and general plants for sale, including heirloom tomatoes, eggplants, beans, peppers, kale, broccoli, lettuce, chard, and much more. The transplants and seedlings are all very affordable, with a focus on certified organic seeds and soil fertilized with worm castings and compost.

Every year, Atlanta’s Park Pride hosts its Parks and Greenspace Conference with speakers and continuing education covering a wide range of topics related to best practices for our parks.
